Student Enrollment Priorities
Please review the following information before enrolling students in TxVSN courses.  Students must meet these criteria:

  • Students currently in grades 9-12 are eligible to enroll in TxVSN courses.
  • Student must be enrolled in a Texas School District or Open Enrollment Charter School serving grades 9-12.
  • Student must be physically present on campus to generate either part time or full time ADA.
  • Student must be enrolled in a TxVSN course that satisfies a curriculum requirement for graduation adopted under Section 28.025.
  • Students enrolled in Dual Credit courses must meet The Higher Education Coordinating Board's (THECB) enrollment priorities.  Please click here for THECB's FAQ page.

Additional Considerations:

  • Students must have regular access to an Internet-connected multimedia computer
  • Students should have readiness skills to be a successful online learner.  TxVSN courses are very rigorous and in many cases accelerated.
  • Each college or university that offers dual credit courses through TxVSN will have an additional registration process to complete for each student.  Please refer to the information page of the college or university offering the course for more information.
  • Students may take TxVSN course as part of normal course load as well as outside normal course load.

District and Open Enrollment Charter School
Registration Steps

Please follow the steps below to complete the registration process.  Students cannot be enrolled in courses until all steps have been completed.

Receiving District or Open Enrollment Charter School Agreement 2009-2010

The Texas Virtual School Network provides an optional, supplemental service and is not intended to replace any course or instructional services that may be provided by the receiving district for its students. In order to assure that all parties are aware of their roles in assisting students to succeed in online courses, this agreement provides guidelines necessary for receiving rigorous online courses from an eligible provider district through the TxVSN. The agreement requires the superintendent’s signature.

TxVSN District/Campus Activation List

List the campuses serving grades 9-12 that are included in the district or open enrollment charter schools' Fall 2009 implementation of the Texas Virtual School Network. Omit campuses not serving grades 9-12 or not participating in Fall 2009.

Additional campuses serving grades 9-12 may be added for Spring 2010 by contacting the Help Desk at txvsncentral@txvsn.org.

The principal listed for each campus will be responsible for approving the registration of TxVSN Site Coordinators for his/her campus via email. Incomplete listings will not be accepted.

Upload Requested Student Information

After Districts have completed steps 1- 3 the District Administrator will be given a log-in to upload student data into the TxVSN System.

Registration and training of Site Coordinators

Each Receiver district or open enrollment charter school enrolling students in TxVSN courses should provide an individual employed by the school/organization to serve in the capacity of TxVSN Site Coordinator. The responsibility of the Site Coordinator is to advise and finalize enrollment, monitor student progress, proctor or arrange proctors for exams, and serve as a liaison between the student and online instructor.  While it is not required that a professional counselor serve as the TxVSN Site Coordinator, counselors do have the knowledge and skills to effectively fulfill the role.  It is possible to have a single district Site Coordinator, a Site Coordinator per campus, or multiple Site Coordinators per campus.  As part of your receiver district registration process, all designated Site Coordinators are required to complete training on the role of the site coordinator. Please visit the training schedule link below.

TxVSN District Needs Assessment for 2009-2010

A district planning to participate in the TxVSN must complete a Needs Assessment annually prior to enrolling students in online courses through the TxVSN. Needs assessment results will be used to aid the Texas Education Agency, TxVSN and TxVSN providers in long-term planning needed to build capacity.

Click here to download a PDF version of the Needs Assessment for planning purposes or review.

Student Pre Assessment (Wish list and READI)

READI Pre-Assessment

During the 2009-2010 school year, TxVSN is providing Readiness for Education At A Distance Indicator or READI. READI is a diagnostic tool that identifies students who are at-risk of not doing well in online courses due to measured sets of traits, skills and knowledge. READI provides an immediate score and diagnostic interpretation of results to the student and to their prospective school. Assessment takes approximately 15 – 20 minutes to complete. READI is strongly suggested for all students interested in taking a TxVSN course.

Each registered campus will receive a student log in and password by email. Please designate at least one person per campus as the campus administrator to distribute student login and passwords to students interested in taking an online course. Each campus administrator will have the ability to view campus student activity, test results and individual student test results. A detailed student handout is available at the link below to assist students with login. READI information training sessions will also be available for campus administrators.

TxVSN Student Wish List

Students can continue to make suggestions concerning courses they would like to see offered in the future (Wish List) by TxVSN. The Wish List can be accessed by visiting the TxVSN website, www.txvsn.org, by clicking on the tab ‘Schools and Districts’, then ‘Students’. Students will follow the steps listed for completing their Wish List.

TxVSN Finance Account

In order to purchase FEE BASED courses through the TxVSN, each district and open enrollment charter school should establish a TxVSN account with Central Operations at ESC Region 10.  Establishing an authorized purchasing approver and preferred method of payment early on will expedite course purchase during peak registration periods. It is possible to have a single district central office purchasing approver or an approver per campus.  It is recommended that central office and campus staff discuss which model works best with local purchasing procedures.

Please click here to designate and register a district Purchasing Approver.
